Pretty Valley, Mount Bogong March 2016

Up, up, up we went. Higher than I’d ever taken my horse before. Past Falls Creek Ski Village and still up we went.

I arrived at the yards and the booked TRV camping area and set up my and my horse’s home away from home.

The next few days we rode out visiting the historic Huts. The weather cleared each morning to bring glorious sunny days to be in the saddle however we were well aware how the Huts would become Life Saving Havens seeing the weather change so quickly a couple of times.

My favourite ride would have to be Day 3, Brumby day. This was bucket list stuff. I’d never seen Brumbies in the wild and was excited and thrilled to spot my first group. All black, standing proud on the small hill in the distance. 6 of them in total. The Stallion watched our every move and guarded his family. I was squinting at first to make them out and to make sure my eyes weren’t deceiving me and then riding towards them, getting closer. They were majestic, wary, but didn’t appear frightened of us. They watched each step as we inched closer and then with a flick of a tail or a head, they were off. Galloping across the plains and quickly out of sight. The next half hour we were full of excitement and chatty with “did you see?”

It was a spectacular day with the sighting of 3 seperate groups. All black, all well covered, there were a few foals standing close by Mums. The family groups were 6-7 in each group. All paying attention to each other and keeping eyes and ears alert to us.

Standing like they own the High Country, which they do, I was in awe with each encounter.

Bucket list with my boy and one of those truly magical and spectacular places in the world to ride.
